strangled animals

Jewish Law does not allow animals to be choked to death and requires slaughtering by cutting the throat and draining the blood, which is not to be consumed (for ‘the blood is the life’, Lev. 17:14) even by Gentiles resident within the community (Lev. 17:10–14). This regulation became part of the decree issued at the Council [[➝ councils]] of Jerusalem (Acts 15:20) in order not to impair table fellowship between Jewish and Gentile Christians.
